Why I Got Into Home Care

Melanie Stover

Hi, I'm Melanie Stover. It's nice to meet you!

My story in Home Care begins before I was even born- with my grandfather- Frank Peterson. He was diagnosed with polio on the same day my Grandmother found out she was pregnant with her 3rd child. Within one year, he would be a quad. At the time, in the 1950s, they didn't have many resources, and the doctors told my Grandmother to "put Frank in a polio home – she was young and had children to care for she didn't need to worry about Frank." But my Grandma Helen said – "No way Frank is coming home with me!" and they turned the dining room into his bedroom. For the next 19 years, he could be home with his family with the help of my Grandmother, my Mom, her brothers, and private-duty nursing - Polio Nurses. The Polio Nurses would become the March of Dimes nurses. The Private Duty Polio nurses taught my Mom and her family how to care for my grandfather correctly – as a testament to the care he received, my Mom reports they turned him every 2-4 hours, and she proudly shares that in the 19 years he was at home he never had a wound from pressure! They made all kinds of adaptive equipment with household items! It's no wonder I became an Occupational Therapist after hearing all the creative uses of magnets, electric mixers, and a mouth stick for typing!

As an Occupational Therapist who worked for VNA, I saw firsthand that home health was where the rubber met the road and the impact home-based services made on patients and families.

I deeply believe that Home Health, Home Care, and Hospice are among the greatest secrets in healthcare.

I KNEW that by using an educational approach, I could expand the knowledge base of referral sources AND get people the care they deserved!

YOUR CARE!

I started Home Care Sales twenty-five years ago from my dining room in TN.

I have served as a coach, mentor, and sales leader to some of the best agencies in the country!

I am known for creating diagnosis-based selling techniques and bridging the gap between clinical/ops and sales.

My key to success is practical, proven protocols and frameworks that give representatives and owners repeatable referrals and results.

Rooted in my clinical background, I elevate the conversation of home health, hospice, and in-home care to new levels to help agencies get a seat at the post-acute care table and expand their presence and influence so that you can do what you do best – care for more patients and clients!

My "Selling = Profound Service" and Your mission is BIGGER than their "No" mindset, along with referral generating systems, have helped clients double and triple their revenues with raving referral sources year after year!

Today, I live on the Gulf Coast with my husband Chris and our twins, Donnie and Dylan.
